Where Should You Install Your Safe?
At Hayden Safe & Lock, we’ve helped many customers find reliable safes to protect their valuables. But finding the right safe is only half the process. Once you find a safe that meets your needs, you then have to figure out where to put it. The point of having a safe is to keep valuable items secure, so you can’t put it just anywhere in your house and assume it will be safe.
While comparing the best reliable safes, you must consider the best place for one in your home. Here are three factors to consider regarding safe placement.
Size
The first thing to think about is the size of the safe you are going to purchase. If it is a small wall safe, you will have a lot more options than if it is a large freestanding safe. Wall safes are easy to conceal, so you can easily fit them in your office, bedroom, or even the kitchen. For a large safe, it’s more convenient to keep it in a place designated for storage, such as a walk-in closet. The basement or garage is also a good option, provided you can protect the safe from humidity or water damage.
Accessibility
Although you want your safe to be secure, you still have to be able to access it. Pick a place in your home that is out of the way but still easy to get at. You also need to make sure there is enough space for the door to open. For example, if you keep your safe at the back of a closet, you may not have enough light to see what’s inside or enough space to open the door easily.
Security
You are buying a safe to secure your valuable items, so you also have to ensure the safe itself is in a secure location. No matter the size or placement of your safe, you want to be sure it can’t easily be seen by someone looking through a window. If you have young children, you should also keep the safe somewhere they can’t reach it. If you accidentally leave the safe unlocked, you don’t want your kids to get into anything potentially dangerous.
